Griffin at 3 Months

Remember Griffin's newborn portraits? Well, he's now a lot bigger after only a couple of months.
This time we did a "Little Parts" session -- you know, when we do closeups of all his tiny little parts. This next image is one of my favorites from the session.And here is his Little Parts collage all put together.Be sure to see Griffin's slideshow -- there are more images than you see here.

Ivy's 6-Month Portraits

Check out how big Ivy is getting. She's now a little more than six months old and sitting up. We all had a great time with this session -- we even had her diaper off for a good twenty minutes with no leaks! That's one of the only times that's happened.

I decided to do the "Little Parts" collage a little differently this time. It's nice when you can get other images that will work, too.

Her expression in this next one is priceless. I don't think she makes this face a whole lot, but I'm sure glad I was able to catch it.Isn't that hat adorable? I wish I could take credit for it, but she brought it to the session herself. OK, her Mom did, really. ;-)
She's not sad here -- she's looking curiously. She wasn't upset at all.
She plays with her feet a lot, so mom wanted to be sure to get a record of it.And we finished up with the tub.

Valarie's 3-Month Portraits

Can you believe that Valarie is already 3 months old? I sure can't. It seems like mom was just here for maternity portraits. She still has a lot of hair -- more than her sister ever did.She's doing a great job at holding up her head.
Of course, Vivian was in a few, too.

Griffin's Newborn Portraits

Griffin is the newest member of our "Baby's First Year" club. His newborn portraits turned out so well. The first image above is one of my favorites.

He was doing so well we put him in the rocking chair. He stayed asleep for most of the session.
He was holding his head up so well, but we propped him up a bit for this next one.

Baby Bonanza Was A Success

If you've followed this blog, you know that the Baby Bonanza was held this past Saturday. As usual, it was a lot of fun and we had a blast. Also, as usual, we were completely beat at 4:00 when it ended. Having a complicated booth, we were the last ones out of there. We had a lot of framed portraits in our double booth. Here's what our booth looked like (with our wonderful helpers):

We passed out over 200 gift certificates ranging from $10 to $75 and they were pretty evenly distributed. Our "lollipop" game was a hit with both the kids and their parents.

There were some games for the dads. The object was to strap the baby (doll -- not a real baby!) into the stroller:

Then race through traffic cones to the other side, where they had to change the baby's diaper:

This one was a close race:

And then race back to the starting line.

There were also three "diaper derby" races. The lines on the racetrack are just for show. The babies didn't stay in their lanes very well.

Some of the babies got a slow start -- even after the winner had been announced:

Even some of the dads walked the "runway" with their model kids and babies.

A princess stopped by to give a tea party for whoever was interested. I was bummed that I had to work -- it looked like a lot of fun.

And, finally, some gymnastics on stage.
There were even more events than this.

Ethan at 1 year

Ethan just finished up his year in portraits with us and we all had a great time. It's so fun to watch these kids grow from tiny newborns to one-year-olds (and beyond).

Abby and Ella at 3 Months

Last week Abby and Ella were here for their 3-month portraits. It's a bit easier to tell them apart, now. It was pretty hard at their newborn session.These two portraits are especially cute. Look at those smiles.

Baby Bonanza this Saturday!

The third annual Baby Bonanza is coming up this Saturday, the 14th. It's a big show for "everything from pregnancy to preschool" at the Aladdin Shrine Center (directions) over by Easton. We've been a part of it for the past two years and we're excited about this third show.

This year, we'll be giving out bookmarks, lollipops, gift certificates, and having prizes drawn every hour. We'll also have a bunch of new samples for everyone to see.

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for grandparents, and children 12 and under are free. If you go to the Baby Bonanza web site, you can get a dollar off coupon.

Aaron and Audrey

You might remember Audrey from her previous portraits, but her baby brother is brand-new! Aaron is about two and a half weeks old right now. Mom and Dad brought him for his newborn portraits with his big sister.

This first image is adorable. Our tea set has seen a lot of use lately.Here's one of the whole family:
Aaron was very sleepy, but we managed to catch a few with his eyes open.
Look how high he's raising his head.
Of course, when we wanted him to sleep (or at least close his eyes), he was wide awake. He's pretty cute.
Audrey loves giving Aaron kisses.
But she also loves lollipops.

Here's Vivian's new baby sister, Valarie. Alex at 6 Months

Erin is One!

Some of you may remember Erin, a real cute girl who's been on our Baby's First Year plan for about a year, now. Well, she's now one and celebrated with us with portraits and a baby-sized cake.

First up we had a little tea party.
Then she wanted to be in the rocking chair. Or, rather, she wanted to climb all over the rocking chair.
Her brother, JB, also came along this time.
And then on with the celebration with balloons and cake!
Erin did a great job on the cake. She really got into it. Bits of cake were all over her face and she had a wonderful time after the initial shock of "is Mom really letting me do this?" wore off.

Abby and Ella

Abby and Ella are our newest members of our "Baby's First Year" plan. Twins are always so much fun. They were here a couple days after Christmas for their newborn portraits.
They did a fantastic job and were good for so long. The hazards of naked babies showed up, of course, but we were all able to laugh it off. Dad got the worst of it.

Ivy at 2 Months

Remember Ivy's newborn portraits? Well, she couldn't wait to do some more so we did some two-month pictures. This time we went to her place for a lifestyle session. That's where we use rooms, furniture, pillows, and blankets to show a more "homey" kind of portrait.This style of portraiture is great for showing how small babies really are.It wouldn't be complete without a Christmas tree photo in there.

Emma at 1 Year

Alex at 3 Months

Alex was here for his three-month portraits a few weeks ago and brought along his parents. He also had a ribbon tied onto him. I think he was a birthday present. Something like that. ;-)

Katie at 3 months

Katie is our latest addition to our "Baby's First Year" plan and she started out with a Christmas session. All images link to a short slideshow with a few more portraits.

Jacob at Three Weeks

Another newborn baby stopped by the other day with his parents in tow. Meet Jacob -- he's only three weeks old in these portraits. Isn't he sweet sleeping on the towels? Mom really wanted a sleeping baby image and here it is!

This next one has Dad in there, too.Newborns have such an interesting look to them. Kind of like someone just getting used to the idea of looking around -- which I suppose they are.Kissing Jacob.I thought this one was especially tender.This next one is fast becoming my favorite baby picture. Nathan at One Year

Nathan has been on our Baby's First Year plan for, well, about a year, now. He just came in on Saturday for his One-Year-Old portraits. It's really interesting to see how much kids change in their first year.We brought out lots of props for him to pose with.
This rocking chair made him giggle and laugh. Hey, whatever works, right? ;-)
We haven't seen the rocking horse much this year. I'm glad it came out for this one. Look at that smile.

Jenna and Sarah

Jenna and Sarah were here a few days ago and put on their cheerleading uniforms. Then they sang the OSU fight song and Hang on Sloopy.OK, they didn't really sing, but they sure looked cute in their outfits.

Ivy at 7 days

Yes, you read that right. Ivy was seven days old when she had her newborn portraits done.I'm pretty sure this is the youngest baby we've had come into the studio. She was also one of the, ahem, messiest babies we've photographed. Let's just say it's not safe to hold a baby without a diaper. And you'd think we'd learn after the first time. ;-) Mom was a great sport about it and it didn't bother us at all. Everything went so well.Ivy took several breaks to nurse and we got some incredible images with Mom. This next one is precious.Isn't she tiny?

Ari's First Birthday

Ari is now One! He was here a couple weeks ago for his first birthday cake portraits. He was a great sport and trashed the cake beautifully.
He's also is a big OSU fan and had to show his spirit.
Of course, Mom and Dad didn't think that OSU garb would be the best for traditional portraits, so he put on a couple more shirts.And here he is standing.
We're number one! At least, that's how old he is.

Erin at Nine Months

Erin is getting so big and has quite the personality. When she stopped by with mom, she was a little sleepy, but she perked up almost right away.
Her pensive look while in the tub was fleeting. She mostly wanted to laugh and stand up. Showing her black pants while in the tub would kind-of ruin the illusion. ;-)

Emma's 9-Month Portraits

I met Emma's parents over at Scioto Park the other day for her nine-month portraits. She is amazingly cute.
She wasn't very smiley, which was odd for her. We found out that evening that she had been cutting a tooth and was probably in a bit of pain. Poor girl. I was able to get several smiling pictures, though, which is always a good thing.
This next one is one of my favorites. She wasn't too keen on feeling the sand and rocks on her feet, but it was novel enough that she didn't mind too much. The river is really low right now. There hasn't been a whole lot of rain this Summer and it shows.

Vivian is One!

Vivian is one of the few babies we've chronicled beginning with her Mom's maternity portraits. She's been here when she was a newborn as well as at three, six, and nine months old. Which brings us to her being one year old this month.I love this little blue dress. So cute

Lexie is One!

Well, Lexie turned one last week. It seems like she was just here for her 3-month portraits, but I guess that was a while ago.

This time she managed to sit on the stool for a few seconds instead of just playing with it.
Daddy wanted to see her decked out in OSU garb. Isn't that a great smile? She's so happy!
Lexie's mom wanted to see how she'd do with our Pat-a-cake session. She was great. Wonderful expressions the entire time.

Christopher is One!

Christopher turned one a few weeks ago and Mom wanted to see what he'd do with a cake. So she brought him in for our "pat-a-cake" session. Newborns have such a unique look that they lose after the first two weeks of life. Mason had actually been in once before, but you couldn't see him -- they were maternity portraits! ;-) It looks like he filled out a little in his first eleven days of life.Take a look at all that hair!

Tooth Fairy Billboard

Several months ago, I took some portraits of two little girls. Toward the end of the session, they were playing dress-up and one of them wore a princess costume -- with a toothbrush.
That image ended up being much larger-than-life-size on a billboard to advertise a dentist's office. It's on High street going North, before getting into Merion Village. The wires look bad here in the still picture, but when you're moving in a car, you don't really notice them

It's always fun to see my photos on billboards.

Connor at Five Weeks

Connor's Mom was fortunate enough to win one of the door prizes at the Baby Bonanza in March. At the time, she looked like the big day would be real soon! He was born near the end of March -- you can do the math.
Anyway, the family came in on Saturday morning for Connor's first portrait session. At first, he didn't seem too excited about the whole process, but he calmed down to let us capture some great expressions.

Baby Bonanza 2008

You may remember the post last month about the Baby Bonanza. You also may be wondering what happened, because I never blogged about it. Well, it did happen! I'm just a bit behind in my announcement posts. It took place on March 15th and it was a whirlwind of a day for us.

Not only did we have the show (where I photographed the events, too), but our son's Blue and Gold banquet for Cub Scouts was the same day. It was his last year, a crossing over ceremony, so we couldn't really bail on him. We had someone help out in the booth for the last couple hours and pack up. I drove back as soon as I could to help load up the car, then back to the Cub Scout banquet.

Anyway, the Baby Bonanza took place at the Aladdin Shrine Center near Easton. It's an interesting venue with tiered levels and lots of stairs. Thankfully, there are a lot of ramps for everyone with strollers, so that wasn't a big issue. It made it easier to load and unload the booth, too.

And while I'm on the subject of the booth, here are some pictures of it. This year we had a double booth and it was so nice having the space to talk and visit with people.
We even had a coloring table so the kids had something to do while they waited for their parent to finish talking. You can kind of see it in the picture below down on the right. Parents loved that their kids had a place to hang out instead of haning on ... to them. ;-)
One of the highlights of the Baby Bonanza each year is the Diaper Derby. Yes, that's right -- baby races. Who knew they'd be so fun? Well, if you're a parent, you can understand why they're funny, at least. Here they are at the start of the race. Off in a flash!
There was much concern when one baby didn't understand the rules. These two stopped and tried to give an explanation, not realizing that another baby was racing toward the finish line.
After the grueling race, the winner had no comment.
There were also activities for parents like how to use your stroller as a piece of exercise equipment and how to cook meals quickly that the whole family will eat.
And, of course, there was fun for parents and kids together.
That parachute looks like so much fun. I think we have a smaller one somewhere. I should go find it.
There was a lot going on throughout the entire day. And, of course, there were tons of vendors who had all kinds of things for your kids. I can't wait for next year. Though I hope that's the only thing we have to do that day. We were exhausted at the end of the day.

Sarah and Jenna

Sarah and Jenna were here a few weeks ago for some portraits. Sarah is only a few months old and already has a great personality. Jenna is a great big sister -- she loves to help out with what she can.

Brilee's First Birthday

Brilee came in yesterday to celebrate her first birthday with lots of clothes and lots of cake. She was such a trooper -- with all of the outfits I was getting worried that she'd crash. Needless to say (once you've seen the pictures) she was more than up for some serious cake-eating.

Ellia is (almost) one

You may recall the story of Ellia (the little girl with Treacher-Collins syndrome). There was an article in Columbus Parent about her in January (and I hear a follow-up article is coming). I posted about it in January. The last portraits we did were before her jaw surgery so her appearance has changed a lot since then. Last week I went over to her house for some updated pictures. We're going to be following her progress with periodic portraits (nice alliteration, eh?) after each surgery she has.
I wasn't completely sure how she'd act, but she was a doll. Blowing kisses and trying to get into everything.

Two Dogs and a Puppy

It's been a couple weeks, but I have to show you these three dogs. The puppy is the white-with-brown one. He belongs to Emily (remember her wedding in December?). The other two are her mother-in-law's. Emily's Mom came along for the session, too, and we were all having a great time.

What can I say? He's a puppy and full of energy. But a bit pooped out right here.

Baby Bonanza on March 15

The Baby Bonanza is Back! For the second year in a row, on March 15, we'll have a booth filled with our work -- and portraits of your kids! We'll also be offering discounts on products that we're discontinuing. Things like photo jewelry, photo bags, and photo coasters.

There will be drawings for prizes, a kids' area, and probably chocolate -- and that's just in our booth. Check out the Baby Bonanza web site to see what will be going on and who else will be there.

Audrey P is One!

After a long absence, I'm back to updating the blog. We'll start off with Audrey's latest session. She is such a cutie and getting so big.

Portland Portrait Party

OK, it wasn't really in Portland but I like the alliteration. Last week I flew out to Hillsboro, Oregon (which is really close to Portland) for some baby portraits. She was 8 weeks old and a real cutie.

She smiled a lot for me. At least that's my story. ;-)

Twinsday

Last Saturday was "Twinsday" for us. It's not too often that we get to photograph twins, so it was really amazing that we had sessions with two sets.
First, Morgan and Mariah were here for their senior portraits. They each have their own slideshow (and blog post -- scroll down a bit to see them) so be sure to watch both of them. It turns out that I did a good job matching their names with their images. I would've hated to mix them up, though I'm sure it happens all the time.
In the afternoon we went over to Gavin and Ava's house for their newborn portraits. It was easier to tell these two apart -- Gavin's a bit bigger. And check out that arm in the picture above -- isn't that precious? There's just one slideshow for the two of them. Scroll down to the previous post to watch it.

We had the privilege of going over to Gavin and Ava's house last week for their newborn portraits. Yes, they're twins! They're both so tiny. They're not allowed to be around too many people and we had to wash up and disinfect our hands before we got started. But once we started, they were a joy to work with. We ended up staying later than we thought because, well, that's just the way newborns are. They have their own schedule.
The family dog even got to be in a few!
Of course, you couldn't expect me to not put a slideshow up, so here you go.

Picture Day at NPCA

Over the past couple of weeks, we've been photographing pre-schoolers at Northwest Presbyterian Christian Academy (a ministry of Northwest Pres.). This was our first pre-school we've done and I had a blast. It was probably one of the most tiring things we've done, but so much fun. They were anywhere from six months old (for teachers' kids) through 5 years old.

I was even able to get good expressions from almost all of the kids! Did I mention it was tiring? You only get to see one of the pictures because he's the only kid I have a release for.

The Schultz Family

Earlier this year, a friend gave the Schultz family a gift certificate for some family portraits. Their newborn (at the time) daughter had some medical issues so we weren't sure when they'd be able to use the certificate.

Last month a day worked out so we all met at Highbanks Metro Park over in Lewis Center. There are only a few hours each day when she's able to be out of their house, so there was a narrow window of time for the portraits.

Nathan

Wow! It's been a long time since I've added anything new, here. It might seem strange, but when the blog is slow, the rest of life is crazy. There has been a lot going on. Some of the busy-ness has been Nathan.

Vivian

Vivian brought her parents in for some newborn portraits last week. Or maybe the other way 'round. I love newborns -- their sounds, the way their faces look, and how small they are. Vivian was no exception. She was wonderful. Of course her parents were concerned that she was crying most of the time but that's just the way things go sometimes. We got some incredible images and I can't wait for them to come in and see all of them. In the meantime, there's a slideshow to see.

Emmett at 12 Months

Emmett came in for his last time on the baby plan last week and it's really amazing to see how he's grown. This is the first time we've completed two kids on the baby plan in the same family. Emmett and Owen are both wonderful to work with and I look forward to seeing them some more with our Kids' Club.

Baby Baptism

Remember Elyse? Well, I had the privilege of photographing her again. This time with some cousins. The two little girls were both baptized on Sunday so that afternoon I went over to the house for some portraits in their baptism gowns. You really never know what you're going to get when you have more than one baby in the picture. :-) There was also a lion involved. And a princess and a flower. Oh, and a toothbrush, too. Ethan at 10 Months

Ethan was in for his ten-month portraits the other day. I really shouldn't be surprised, but kids look so different after a few months. I mean, I know he's the same boy, but he looks so different.

Audrey at 6 Months

Audrey was in for her six month portraits the other day. It was almost two weeks ago, actually, now that I think about it. Going out of town makes things go quickly. Anyway, she's already sitting up (as you can see) and still as cute as she can be. Hey, that rhymes! ;-)

I love how her toes are peeking up in this tub picture.

Baby Kate

This was so fun. Some of you might remember Baby Kate's 7-month portraits last year. Well, she came in again for 19-month pictures -- almost exactly one year ago to the day.

Reagan

Yesterday we went to Hilliard to Reagan's house to take some one-year-old portraits of her and her cousin, Allison. Reagan's mom really wanted something different from the "typical one-year portraits with the baby sitting next to a big number one." We assured her that we don't even have any big numbers so she was safe.

We motored through the processing and proofed the images this afternoon. I knew they'd be happy, but they were happier than they ever expected. One comment was that they usually only like one picture [from a portrait session] so that's the one they order. This time, however, there were so many good ones that they couldn't decide on just one.

Anyway, the slideshow starts out with Allison because she was ready first, so don't be too confused about who's who. Allison has more hair. ;-)

Emmett at 9 Months

Emmett has sure grown, hasn't he. And he's looking more and more like his brother, Owen. I can't believe he's already nine months old.

As always, he was a perfect baby, doing typical 9-month-old things, like not sitting still! :) He was so much fun to chase around.

Grant at 18 Months

Grant was in a few days ago for his 18 month portraits and I'm so pleased with how they turned out. Like most 18-month-olds, he was running all over the place and really keeping me on my toes! Elyse

Last week Elyse came in for some baby portraits. Isn't she a cutie? Her little yellow and pink dress was adorable. They're coming in today to look at the pictures but here's a little preview.

Carson's First Birthday

Carson came in for his 12-month session last week. He's been so much fun to photograph over this year and this time was no different. We did a "pat-a-cake" session for his birthday -- that's when we put him in front of a (baby-sized) cake and see what happens. He was great. He just dived right into that cake and didn't want to stop. There are a bunch more pictures in the slideshow, so take a look!

Tea Pups

Once again, we're photographing a new litter of White German Shepherd puppies. These are just three-and-a-half weeks old. They had just started hearing that morning and their eyes are now open. It was fun using the teacups again.

We're planning on doing another set of portraits in a couple weeks so stay tuned for that.

Ethan at 6 Months

This is so much fun. Sometimes I can't believe I actually get paid to do what I love. Yesterday afternoon Ethan came in with his parents for his 6 month portraits. They wanted some family pictures, too, so we had everyone in there for some of them. Of course, we had to get some pictures in the tub. At first he wasn't too keen on the idea, but he warmed up to it. Then he didn't want to get out of it. Just goes to show you, you never know what you'll like unless you try it first.

Sania and Mia

This morning Sania and Mia came in with their parents for some 1-year-old pictures (for Sania) and Spring pictures for both of them. Sania was a little fussy, but you'd never know it from the pictures.

They're both so adorable. Mia kept on wanting to steal the show, and Sania just wanted to be by herself. Luckily, our new teacups were a big hit with both of them. Make sure to watch the slideshow and leave a comment below.

Audrey P

So, just as Audrey finished up her year in portraits, another Audrey comes in for her 3-month pictures. So, we'll call her Audrey P. She was a doll and so smiley. She had fallen asleep on the way over (all of a 2 mile drive) so I just had to take some "sleeping baby" pictures first.

Madeline at 12 Months

Well, this was Madeline's last session for her baby plan. There was some concern whether or not she'd still be in Columbus at this time, so we're really glad Daddy didn't get transferred somewhere else.

Audrey's First Birthday

Audrey was here for her 1-year portraits the other day. She (or, rather, her mom) had wanted to come in the previous week to get some pictures to give Daddy, but she was sick. It's just that time of year. She wasn't as into the cake as we'd hoped, but she still had fun getting Mommy all covered in icing.

Emmett's 6 month portraits

I'm getting to this a little later than normal, but I just have to post up some pictures of Emmett. He's now 6 months old and looking a little less like his brother, Owen, but you can still tell they're brothers in the eyes.

It seems like he was just in because he came back for his baby parts portraits in between the 3- and 6-month sessions.

Ethan -- two for one

On this post, you'll see two slideshows of Ethan. The first one was last October and the second one was in December. He is such a cutie so I thought I'd put them both up here together.





Several months ago Ethan came in with his family for some newborn portraits. He was so cute. Newborns are so much fun to photograph because you really never know what's going to happen. And it happened. A fountain while dad was holding him -- dad was pretty soaked! He was a real good sport about it and we all laughed.

And now for his three-month portraits. These were a lot of fun, too. He's really filled out a lot. It's so much fun seeing all the changes in babies over the years. There's a slideshow for these, too, but if you see the one right above, it goes straight to this one.

Emmett's little parts

An hour after Lucas came in (see entry right below this one), Emmett was in for his "baby parts" session! We had tried to do it at his three-month appointment, but he wasn't really interested in it. This time it went much better. I love the way these images just came together.

Lucas at 3 months

Callista at 9 Months

We've had a bunch of babies coming into our studio lately. Callista's nine month portraits are as cute as ever, and I can't believe how big she's getting. Standing on her own in a dress. She was trying to crawl in her dress, which of course didn't work, and had the funniest expression on her face. Like she was thinking, "I know this should work, but something's different somehow."

Madeline at 9 Months

We had the pleasure of photographing Madeline again -- this time for her nine month pictures. As always, she was a doll and loved mugging at us. It's so fun to watch how babies grow and see how much they learn in such a short time. As always (well, usually) here's Madeline's slideshow.

Charlie

Charlie came in a few weeks ago for some adorable baby pictures. He was so full of personality and was a dream to photograph. There's a short slideshow of his pictures to be seen.

Kailee's One!

Kailee had her one-year-old birthday party a few days ago, and her mom brought her in for our special "Pat-a-cake" session. She was wonderful, loved the cake, and gave us some great expressions. Her slideshow shows everything. Well, almost everything.

Brady

You know, this is so much fun. Brady came in earlier this week for his portraits and we all had a great time. Mom and Dad we so nice and really wanted to get in the pictures -- but didn't want their faces showing. They had some great ideas for the images. Take a look at the slideshow for more of them. The Dryden Kids

We had the Dryden kids over for their portraits a few days ago and what a cute family they are. A little 3-month old and two older kids. Madeline at 6 Months!

Madeline came in a couple days ago for her six-month portraits. She is such a sweetie and so smiley, too. I was thrilled with the photographs when I saw them. Especially the bubbly ones near the end. I can't wait to see her again in a few months.

Carson's parents brought him in last week for his five-week-old portraits. What a cutie he is. This picture is one of my favorites. It doesn't really need a caption, but he ought to have a word bubble above him saying something like "hey, what're you lookin at?"
