If you've followed this blog, you know that the Baby Bonanza was held this past Saturday. As usual, it was a lot of fun and we had a blast. Also, as usual, we were completely beat at 4:00 when it ended. Having a complicated booth, we were the last ones out of there. We had a lot of framed portraits in our double booth. Here's what our booth looked like (with our wonderful helpers):

There were even more events than this.Labels: 1 Year, 3 Months, 6 Months, 9 Months, Babies, Events, Families, Kids, Newborn
Ethan just finished up his year in portraits with us and we all had a great time. It's so fun to watch these kids grow from tiny newborns to one-year-olds (and beyond).
Mom and Dad got in a few portraits, too:
Ethan loves to be flipped over like this:
Sometimes you have to get them in motion. That's just how they are at this stage of life.

The third annual Baby Bonanza is coming up this Saturday, the 14th. It's a big show for "everything from pregnancy to preschool" at the Aladdin Shrine Center (directions) over by Easton. We've been a part of it for the past two years and we're excited about this third show.

You might remember Audrey from her previous portraits, but her baby brother is brand-new! Aaron is about two and a half weeks old right now. Mom and Dad brought him for his newborn portraits with his big sister.
Here's one of the whole family:
Aaron was very sleepy, but we managed to catch a few with his eyes open.
Look how high he's raising his head.
Of course, when we wanted him to sleep (or at least close his eyes), he was wide awake. He's pretty cute.
Audrey loves giving Aaron kisses.
But she also loves lollipops.
I love it when kids stick their tongues out.

Some of you may remember Erin, a real cute girl who's been on our Baby's First Year plan for about a year, now. Well, she's now one and celebrated with us with portraits and a baby-sized cake.

Then she wanted to be in the rocking chair. Or, rather, she wanted to climb all over the rocking chair.
Her brother, JB, also came along this time.
And then on with the celebration with balloons and cake!
Erin did a great job on the cake. She really got into it. Bits of cake were all over her face and she had a wonderful time after the initial shock of "is Mom really letting me do this?" wore off.
Be sure to see her slideshow for a few more images from this session.

Don't forget to see her slideshow.
Jenna and Sarah were here a few days ago and put on their cheerleading uniforms. Then they sang the OSU fight song and Hang on Sloopy.
OK, they didn't really sing, but they sure looked cute in their outfits.
Here's an "O" from Hang On Sloopy (see the slideshow for the rest of the letters).
There were also many giggles.
Aren't they adorable together?
And one last one.
Be sure to see their slideshow, too.
Ari is now One! He was here a couple weeks ago for his first birthday cake portraits. He was a great sport and trashed the cake beautifully.
He's also is a big OSU fan and had to show his spirit.
Of course, Mom and Dad didn't think that OSU garb would be the best for traditional portraits, so he put on a couple more shirts.
And here he is standing.
We're number one! At least, that's how old he is.
And here's one last one from the pat-a-cake session.
Emmett was one of our "Baby's First Year" kids. It's been a year since his last session so these are his two-year-old portraits (funny how that works).
It took him a bit to warm up, but once we brought out the toys he was happy.
The Lego trucks were a big hit.
Be sure to check out his slideshow for some more images.Labels: Kids
Remember Ellia Schultz? She's the little girl with Treacher-Collins Syndrome that we've been following for about a year, now. Every so often I do some new portraits to show the progress with her many surgeries.
This next one really seems to catch her personality.
Of course, her brother and sister were photographed, too.
This next one shows what he's like. He was always trying to pick things up and play.
I love the way the wind caught her hair and the sparkle in her eyes.
She loves to swing.

Vivian is one of the few babies we've chronicled beginning with her Mom's maternity portraits. She's been here when she was a newborn as well as at three, six, and nine months old. Which brings us to her being one year old this month.
I love this little blue dress. So cute
She has grown a lot since those first newborn portraits.
Make sure to see her latest slideshow.
The last time I photographed Elyse, she was much smaller and was playing the part of the Tooth Fairy. She's changed a bit since then.
This time her cousin, Mikey, was there, too.
We had fun down at Scioto Park.
There's a real cool tree there. It's been done a thousand times before, but it's still good.
Don't forget the slideshow.

It's been a crazy month so far. I've gotten behind in my blog posts, but I hope to make up for it soon.
Moving babies are always fun -- you never really know what you're going to get.
The little red guitar has proven to be a big hit.
Be sure to check out his slideshow and leave a comment.
Remember Erin and JB? Well, they came in a couple weeks ago for Erin's six-month portraits. Check out these images.
I love the tie-dye shirts.

She's getting so big, isn't she?

Shannon and Matt had their wedding reception a couple weeks ago. The wedding was a little earlier in the month -- in Alaska! Typically, destination weddings are in Hawaii, San Diego, or someplace like that -- places a bit more tropical than Alaska. But then, Shannon and Matt aren't all that typical.
Since they didn't have their friends and family around for the wedding, they had a reception here in Columbus. We started out with portraits at Highbanks Metro Park, and then moved on to dinner at Hyde Park. There was a surprise fish cake (no, not that kind of fish cake) and some other great moments.

Owen was one of our very first kids when we started the Baby's First Year plan. He has come back several times, now. He was a little shy at first, but he warmed up quickly, and was as energetic as ever.
Check out the slideshow and leave a comment below.
The young rock star!
After several somersaults, he wasn't tired at all.

A little back-story on this one. Way back when I was a freshman in high school (or maybe a sophomore), a friend of mine came back from summer vacation with a new electric guitar. The brand was Squier! I couldn't believe it. And it was actually spelled the "correct" way and everything. Squier is the "value brand" of Fender guitars.
Ever since then (ca. 1982 or 83) I've always wanted one. But, you know, I'm not a guitar player so it was never going to happen. Well, I recently found out that the Squier brand came out with a 3/4 size Stratocaster that was perfect for kids. Now this was something I couldn't really pass up. I got one as a prop. So, we had a lot of fun playing with it and taking pictures. I make a tiny appearance in the slideshow, but don't let that stop you from checking it out. So, turn up the volume and get a cup of coffee -- it's a pretty long slideshow.

Several months ago, I took some portraits of two little girls. Toward the end of the session, they were playing dress-up and one of them wore a princess costume -- with a toothbrush.
That image ended up being much larger-than-life-size on a billboard to advertise a dentist's office. It's on High street going North, before getting into Merion Village. The wires look bad here in the still picture, but when you're moving in a car, you don't really notice themLabels: Babies, Commercial, Kids
This is another personal post. We went on a cruise at the end of March. It was a great break from reality and tons of fun. I had never been swimming in the Atlantic and I have to say -- it's much warmer than the Pacific! And the water (at least where we were) was so clear. I always thought those pictures you see in travel magazines had the colors pumped up. That's really how it looks.
We saw a bunch of fish snorkeling, learned about Pirates in Nassau, ate a lot on the ship, won some prizes (nothing big, though), and basically had a great time with the family. We didn't take any way to check e-mail and our phones didn't work, so we were really on vacation. I took one of the big cameras, but should have left it home. I only took a few photos with it. Almost everything was with a point and shoot.
We ended up staying a couple days in Ft. Lauderdale since our plane was way overbooked. They made us an offer we couldn't refuse. ;-) The airline was great about the whole thing. They were so desperate that they looked through all of our baggage on the plane and got it off. Then they gave us two rooms in the Airport Hilton for two nights. And they covered all of our meals, too. So, it was like another mini-vacation tagged on at the end.
Take a look at the slideshow of snapshots from our trip. Remember, these are just fun, sometimes goofy, vacation memories. They're not our normal, portrait-quality images. But you knew that, already. ;-)

You may remember the post last month about the Baby Bonanza. You also may be wondering what happened, because I never blogged about it. Well, it did happen! I'm just a bit behind in my announcement posts. It took place on March 15th and it was a whirlwind of a day for us.Labels: Announcements, Babies, Events, Kids

Sarah and Jenna were here a few weeks ago for some portraits. Sarah is only a few months old and already has a great personality. Jenna is a great big sister -- she loves to help out with what she can.

Carson came back for his two-year-old portraits the other day. He's gotten so big. I hadn't seen him in a while. It's really cool when kids start answering your questions and they make sense.
Make sure to see his slideshow. Leave a comment below if you want.

I've been photographing Casey and Quinn (and their brother and other sister) for several years. The family was one of our first customers once we went "full time" and have seen us through our journey. A lot has changed since then both with them and our business. It's amazing to watch them grow. Wow. I didn't mean to get so philosophical or nostalgic on you. ;-)

You may recall the story of Ellia (the little girl with Treacher-Collins syndrome). There was an article in Columbus Parent about her in January (and I hear a follow-up article is coming). I posted about it in January. The last portraits we did were before her jaw surgery so her appearance has changed a lot since then. Last week I went over to her house for some updated pictures. We're going to be following her progress with periodic portraits (nice alliteration, eh?) after each surgery she has.
I wasn't completely sure how she'd act, but she was a doll. Blowing kisses and trying to get into everything.

I really can't believe that Madeline is now two years old. I guess because we have a picture of her as an infant with her brothers I just think of her as a baby.
Well, she's an adorable two-year-old, now, and we decided to put up our spring set just for her.
Make sure to see her slideshow for more pictures.

The Baby Bonanza is Back! For the second year in a row, on March 15, we'll have a booth filled with our work -- and portraits of your kids! We'll also be offering discounts on products that we're discontinuing. Things like photo jewelry, photo bags, and photo coasters.Labels: Announcements, Babies, Events, Kids
Last month we did portraits at the Creature Canyon father-daughter dance. This is the third year we've done this and it's always so much fun. The group is a part of the Y-Tribe (formerly known as Indian Princesses) through the YMCA. What's really cool is that the dads do all of the work to make it happen. They do the decorating, planning, and facilitating. Everyone is always so nice there -- it's great that everyone thanks us after taking their portrait. And the girls are so pretty in their dresses.
This year we used our high-speed printer to get all the photographs printed and in frames before the event was over. It was great to be able to take the portraits, choose the best ones, have all 130 5x7s printed and then put in frames in just over two hours.
Isabel was in a few weeks ago for some updated portraits. She has a great personality and so smiley. Be sure to see her slideshow for more pictures.

Wow! What a crazy last couple of months. We had our best holiday season to date. Sometime this month we'll get our Christmas cards out. For, uh, next Christmas? Yeah, we're really getting a jump on things. ;-)

Here are the Trotter kids all decked out in their Christmas clothes. Mom wanted a Christmas portrait but wasn't too hopeful after the session. I knew better and showed her some good ones on the back of the camera. When she came in she was thrilled with the results. I love it when that happens.
Take a look at their slideshow for more images.

Many of you probably remember Grant. He's been in a few times before and now he's two! He's really changed. He was so happy as long as he had a toy in his hands -- so there are a lot of images with toys.
Take a look at his slideshow and leave a comment.

The Anzelmo family came in for their Christmas portraits the other day. Their little girl is so cute. Check out their slideshow for more pictures.
You know that press release that Abbott Nutrition put out yesterday (see blog entry just below this one)? Well, the image was up over Times Square last night. I thought that was pretty cool.

I got a jump on trick-or-treating this year by taking some lifestyle images for Abbott Nutrition. You might know them as Ross Products (they make Pedialyte, PediaSure, Ensure, Similac, and a bunch of other stuff). I've been doing some work for them in the past few months and I've had a great time.Labels: Commercial, Kids
Over the past couple of weeks, we've been photographing pre-schoolers at Northwest Presbyterian Christian Academy (a ministry of Northwest Pres.). This was our first pre-school we've done and I had a blast. It was probably one of the most tiring things we've done, but so much fun. They were anywhere from six months old (for teachers' kids) through 5 years old.Labels: Babies, Kids, School Pictures
Earlier this year, a friend gave the Schultz family a gift certificate for some family portraits. Their newborn (at the time) daughter had some medical issues so we weren't sure when they'd be able to use the certificate.

Remember Elyse? Well, I had the privilege of photographing her again. This time with some cousins. The two little girls were both baptized on Sunday so that afternoon I went over to the house for some portraits in their baptism gowns. You really never know what you're going to get when you have more than one baby in the picture. :-) There was also a lion involved. And a princess and a flower. Oh, and a toothbrush, too. Watch the slideshow for the other pictures.

This portrait session was so much fun. I've been taking these kids' portraits for a few years, now -- watching them grow. There are a couple other kids in the family whose portraits I take at another time of the year but this time was for Josh and Layne. I can't believe Josh will be in High School this fall.
There are more images in the slideshow, so be sure to check it out and then leave a comment for them below.

Last night we were photographing at the Canteen again. We've done this for every one of them this year. This was the final one of the year and we got to test out our new photo printer. Sorry, no pictures to show -- we don't have releases for them.
With our new printer, we couln't keep up with it to put the prints into folders! It's that fast. And because it printed so quickly, matching up names with pictures was easy. This is definitley a volume printer designed for this kind of work. It's the same printer that's used in the mall for pictures with Santa or the Easter Bunny or whatever. I had always been a little disappointed with those prints -- they seemed "soft" or kind of blurry to me. I don't know what they're doing because the prints from ours look incredible. It prints at a higher resolution than most labs' printers, I believe.Labels: Announcements, Events, Kids

So, just as Audrey finished up her year in portraits, another Audrey comes in for her 3-month pictures. So, we'll call her Audrey P. She was a doll and so smiley. She had fallen asleep on the way over (all of a 2 mile drive) so I just had to take some "sleeping baby" pictures first.

Well, this was Madeline's last session for her baby plan. There was some concern whether or not she'd still be in Columbus at this time, so we're really glad Daddy didn't get transferred somewhere else.
Audrey was here for her 1-year portraits the other day. She (or, rather, her mom) had wanted to come in the previous week to get some pictures to give Daddy, but she was sick. It's just that time of year. She wasn't as into the cake as we'd hoped, but she still had fun getting Mommy all covered in icing.

On this post, you'll see two slideshows of Ethan. The first one was last October and the second one was in December. He is such a cutie so I thought I'd put them both up here together.

An hour after Lucas came in (see entry right below this one), Emmett was in for his "baby parts" session! We had tried to do it at his three-month appointment, but he wasn't really interested in it. This time it went much better. I love the way these images just came together.

Check out his slideshow and leave a comment below.
This was a tough one. The dad has leukemia. It was in remission but recently came back and he's in the hospital again. As soon as they found out, they scheduled the portraits. That's all I'm going to write. Like I said, it was really hard to do. Here's the slideshow.

Today marked the end of the first Summer Camp week for Drama Kids in the Columbus area. What a fun production they all put on. One week to get the entire show made -- that's making the sets, learning lines, blocking (and even some singing)! If you have school-aged kids (or are one yourself), take a look at Drama Kids -- it's lots of fun. There are several week-long camps throughout the summer, and all in different areas of Columbus.Labels: Kids
Baby Callista came in again -- this time for her six-month portraits! What a cutie. This time her big sister was ready to have her pictures taken, too. Have I said how much I love my job? This is great! Here's the slideshow.
We were surprised yesterday by a visit from our good friends, Scott and Bernadette. They moved to Texas a couple years ago and it had been a while since we'd seen them. Of course, we had to take their pictures so we did a short, little session with them. They were good sports about the whole process, despite being cranky from traveling.

The Walter children came in for a spring portrait and they had the best looking outfits. The boys were matching in blue and white striped pants and white shirts with adorable yellow ties. The baby was just adorable in her white bonnet. I know I say this all the time, but when I see pictures like this, it makes me thankful that I can love my work so much. Here's the slideshow.
